الملخص

It has been axiomatically assumed in contrastive linguistics that contrastive analyses generally aim at revealing the discrepancies and congruencies between particular grammatical structures of the languages under consideration and thus ultimately contribute to the improvement of foreign language teaching, (Snook 1971). They can also make useful and substantial contribution to translational linguistics, especially to machine translation and linguistics typology.The present contrastive analysis of plural formation in English and Arabic, however, tries to reveal through morphological contrastivity and exemplification areas of discrepancies and congruencies of plural formation in both languages.
